Why Tallow?
Why Tallow?
Grass fed/finished beef tallow is the most compatible to our own skin because it resembles our natural sebum (the oil produced by the glands in our skin) that in Latin, tallow is translated as sebum. Tallow absorbs easily, is very effective in treating dry skin and is well received by most skin types without causing irritation. It’s often recommended for those with eczema and even thought to aid in treating Keratosis Pilaris (red bumps or “Chicken Skin”), diaper rash, wrinkles, rashes, itching, and more. It also helps increase skin’s flexibility and ability to heal & support the protective barrier function of skin
Tallow rendered from grass-fed cattle provides some of the following nutrients:
• Vitamins A, D, K, E and B12
• Choline
• CLA
• Other fatty acids, including oleic acid, palmitoleic acid, stearic acid, linoleic acid and others
Around 47% of the fatty acid composition of tallow is oleic acid. This acid is classified as a monounsaturated omega-9 fatty acid and amazing ingredient for dry or aging skin because it has the ability to easily and deeply penetrate into the skin's surface
Tallow is abundant in conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) which has powerful anti-inflammatory properties.
Oleic acid can bring the natural oil production back into balance and prevent future breakouts. Most importantly, it doesn’t clog the pores but it forms a protective layer on the skin’s surface that prevents environmental damage.
Finally, it's high in antioxidants, meaning it can fight off free radicals and prevent damage from oxidation.
Basically it’s truly one of the most versatile, therapeutic things you can put on your skin!
